For the love of mud, can it be done?)</strike> It's done! Yay!

<strike>well this isn't shiny - Shepherd Book/Kaylee Frye (Are we done with this one, Ali?)</strike> Finished!

What the Hell - Jeannie/Mad Sweeney

Storming the Castle - Harley Quinn/Anthony Crowley/ Elle Bishop

Okay, that’s… kinda insane. I know a lot of it is because of the Holly-Daze Challenge threads, but wow… okay, once the challenge threads are over, I’m going to have to pare back on how often I say yes to a thread.

Replies I owe:

<strike>Dizzy to Hebe
Namtar to Eris
Dizzy to Eris
Jeannie to Sweeney
Hera to Art
Bast to Skadhi
Kray to Than (OMG, they’re SO going to set themselves on fire.)</strike>
Njord to Selene
Harley to Crowley & Elle (Though I’m not rushing on this one. You guys can cause a little more destruction if you want to before I throw her in the mix.)

I’m going to pick away at these throughout the night and tomorrow. And by then, I’ll probably have more. I’m just asking for a little patience during the holiday season, especially because right now things are taking a little longer due to a sprained ankle.

Have I forgotten anybody or anything? It's possible, so let me know.

Turkey Day Fun!

Roast a virtual turkey!

Pretty simple. Set the oven to bake, pick your time, close the door. Set it and forget it. It cooks, for all intents and purposes, in real time. So it's going to take a few hours to get it close to done. (Oh yes, it also sizzles as it cooks, so don’t worry if you hear that, it’s not your computer melting down.) When you're finished, turn the oven to off and it will ask if you're done... click yes and it will put your pretty turkey on a platter, tell you how done it is, and offer to send it to friends.

A couple years ago, I managed to make one of my turkeys 576% done... i.e. it was a blackened, charred lump. See? Fun. :-)

Hope everybody had a happy gobble gobble day!

I'm all caught up on replies. For now. I'm sure that will change soon enough.

I didn't get to the new posts I want to do. I've run out of energy, but hopefully I can get there soon. I AM feeling a bit better. The tummy has settled down, even if the cough is getting worse. I can sit at the computer with a cough. So hopefully in the next day or two I'll get the new Jeannie post and new Dysnomia post done.

Dawny, Nat, thank you so much for your patience. I'm so sorry for the delay.

Meme

Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!" and I will give you five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your IJ and explain what they mean to you.

deborak gave me cooking, family, roleplaying, trucks, frugality:

Cooking: When I was thirteen, Dad went back to over-the-road driving and Mom started working nights at a factory, so I got the kid (baby brother), the cooking, the cleaning, the laundry, the yard work, the whole shebang, because everybody had to pitch in. The cooking was the only bit I really liked. I love how a meal can bring people together, and I like experimenting with different flavors. I miss baking, a bit, but with just me and the husband a full cake is a bit much to have in the house.

Family: I have a lot of it. I have four older half-brothers and an older half-sister from my father’s first marriage, and a little brother. This has given me a baker’s dozen in the nieces and nephews department, with baby brother adding the last two nieces. My father comes from a family of 13 kids, and I have so many cousins on my mother’s side of the family, I don’t even know them all. So, I have a bit of family.

Roleplaying: I’m going to assume that we’re talking about the RPG kind of roleplaying, and not the bedroom sort of roleplaying. Not that I’m saying that I do that, mind you… Anyway. Roleplaying… that would be your fault, deborak. It was you that pulled me into it with RPGG and my first character, Hera. The hubby had tried to get me into LARPing, but while I had fun making the character sheet, I never actually played. Writing, though, was something that I loved to do so it was much easier for me to put it into practice. Now I have so many critters running around in my head, it’s not funny.

Trucks: I grew up in a truck driving family. My dad drove. Three of my older brothers still drive. And for eight years, I worked in an office that provided a secondary service for trucking companies. So yep. Trucks.

Frugality: My husband and I made a decision a few years ago. He’d read a book by a guy named Dave Ramsey, and we sat down, discussed it, discussed a slightly modified plan of action, and decided to live it. So far, it’s working. We have a home that will be entirely ours in several years, and plans in place for my parents. We splurge carefully, but save money where we can, as much as we can, so that we can, in a few years, live the way we want to.

tygie gave me instant messaging, play, drive-ins, steampunk, New York:

Instant messaging: It’s really strange how things work out sometimes. I’d originally gotten MSN, AIM and YIM to keep in touch with the other dollers that I’d met on Eden Enchanted, specifically to work out details for some of the contests we did with the pixel art. Then once I started Rping at RPGG, I met tygie, quillismightier and arami; as well as getting to talk on a more regular basis to krzykat and deborak, both of whom I’d known for about ten years. But what makes me chuckle about tygie picking that particular word is, despite all the time we spend talking to each other via IM, it was her roommate that had installed MSN on her computer. If not for that…

Play: If not for that, she and I wouldn’t do so much of this. Because if we’re both online, we’re usually RPing in IM, about to RP in IM, or have just finished RPing in IM. Usually heralded by the battle cry of “PLAY!” We do talk about a lot of other things when we IM, but somehow it usually evolves into playing eventually.

Drive-ins: Well I only have the one. There is a drive-in movie theater, Becky’s Drive-In, just down the mountain that the hubby and I like to go to during the summer. He likes to go far more often than I do. It’s not that I don’t love it, I do, it’s a blast to go. But it’s a double feature, you have to get there early to get a good spot, wait for the sun to go down, etc. So by the time you’re done, you’ve been there a good chunk of time, and you come home pooped. Happy. But pooped. So it’s just a once-in-a-while treat.

Steampunk: Shhhhhh! Like four people know I like steampunk! And I like it that way. It prevents certain squeeful people from stomping all over my butterfly and ruining my enjoyment of something. It’s the same reason I don’t broadcast which shows I like too often. But since you brought it up, I LOVE STEAMPUNK. I’m so damn excited about the costume I’m working on for D*C next year. I need to do some figuring on some gears and make a trip to Home Depot, since the accessories are the part that I’m going to struggle with, I think. Then again, I have some worries about the gaiters too, since I haven’t found a pattern, and I’m just beginning to teach myself to sew. But still… it’s so wicked cool, I really want to do it well. It’s so wonderfully detailed and creative, I hope I’m up to the challenge.

New York: My adopted home town. I moved to NYC to move in with my husband about six months after I’d met him in person for the first time. Considering that I grew up five miles outside of a town of 775 people, it was a bit different. (Though I’d lived several other places prior to that; some of them had also been major cities.) I genuinely LOVE New York City, with all it’s diversity and craziness. There’s so much going on, all the time, it’s impossible to be bored in that city. There is a pulse and energy that I’ve never found in any other city, and surprisingly, a great feeling of community. New Yorkers love their city, passionately, and they’ll defend it the same way. There are many things I miss about living there. Traffic is not one of them. But occasionally, at 3 a.m., I’d really like some tikka masala and naan, and out here… I’m lucky I got a WaWa that’s nearby.

quillismightier gave me cats, Wisconsin, guns, Eris, critters:

Cats: Ah, my little furry butts. I grew up in a dog family. My parents always claimed that they didn’t like cats. Of course, now that I’ve moved out, they got one of their own, though my mom complains about her constantly. I think Dad is fonder of her, but they’re still more dog people than cat people. I like to think that me and my first kitty, Yowler, changed their minds a bit. When I moved in with the hubby, he had two of his own, Circle and Gremlyn. Then we added Vinnie. After moving to PA, we acquired Lola and Cheeto. Since then, we’ve turned down, at last count, the offers for another 14 cats. Oh, wait, 15. The lady that took my blood a couple weeks ago offered me a little male kitty, under a year old. Apparently, we just look like cat people. See my answers to Ali below for further info.

Wisconsin: I was born and raised, and spent most of my life, in the cheese state. I think that growing up in a rural community in Wisconsin gave me skills that some people don’t have. I’m very self-sufficient, and prepared to try to handle something myself rather than handing it off to somebody. I think I have a good solid foundation because of where I grew up. But I had itchy feet and the pace was too slow for me there for a while… it took me some time to settle down.

Guns: This one is more my husband than it is me. It’s his hobby and his passion, but I’m a very firm proponent of the second amendment. Gun ownership is not a crime, and not everyone that owns a gun is a right-wing, bible-thumping, ignorant, inbred hick. I do get a little frustrated with the stereotype. I have fun target shooting with my revolver, and the hubby almost has me talked into doing a zombie shoot… which is where they have zombie targets, sometimes on wires or rollers so they can be moving targets, and usually there’s three stations: shotgun, pistol, and then a hatchet or a machete where you get to smash a head (which is really a melon.) They’re fun.

Eris: Goddess of discord and chaos, matron goddess of Discordianism, hater of hot dogs with buns. Which reminds me, I haven’t been able to find my copy of the Principia Discordia since we moved. I think Eris may have reclaimed it into the chaos from whence it originated. Or it’s at the bottom of a box full of 80’s music on cassette tapes. And may I just add: FNORD!

Critters: Since you asked about cats, I’m not sure if you’re referring to the other animals I’ve had, or the fact that I call my characters critters. If it’s the former, I’ve had quite a number of pets pass through my household: guinea pigs, a hedgehog, mice, birds. We still have three snakes, though it used to be five. If you’re asking about the latter, I have no idea why I call my characters critters. I’m just weird.

semicharmedali gave me Dragon*Con, Liquor, Kitties, bears, DDC:

Dragon*Con: For years, I had friends telling me I HAD TO GO TO DRAGON*CON OMG. I finally got to go in 2008, and again this year. I will be going again next year, because OMGDRAGON*CON. Okay, I admit it. It was and is as awesome as everybody kept telling me. It’s insane and crowded and non-stop, but AWESOME. Hopefully next year I’ll have a costume; I wanted one this year, but I didn’t really have the time or money considering it came down to the wire on whether I was going to be able to afford to go or not. It’s a week I look forward to, all year. It’s better than Christmas.

Liquor: I am honestly not sure why I got this one. I’m not a big drinker. Other than the first year at D*C when Cary MADE me drink those Gummi Bears with Machine Guns and get all drunk… I’m a choir girl when it comes to alcohol. Really. A little wine now and then. Some cider occasionally. But liquor… really, I have no idea what you’re getting at.

Kitties: I covered the kitties in my reply to Dawny above, but I will just add here that all but one of our kitties has been a rescue. Yowler rode to work under the wheel well of a co-worker’s car when she was 3 months old. I miss her, every day. The hubby found Gremlyn on the side of the road when she was 6 months old… and she’s now 21. Circle, who’s actual name is Circe, is a pure-breed that was bought and given as a gift to my husband. Vinnie… actually, I stole him from a neighbor because he was being mistreated. Then we moved to a different state, and he’s all mine now. Lola was given to us by a family that couldn’t keep her and was considering putting her in a shelter. And Cheeto was a rescue kitty that DEMANDED we take her home, so I paid for her shots and home she came. Those are my kitties.

Bears: I don’t wanna talk about the bears. I don’t like the bears. But they have squatters’ rights since they were here first, so I’m kinda stuck with them. Fortunately, I have black bears, not brown bears which are WAY WAY WAY scarier. Honestly? I’m a bit more freaked out by the mountain lions up here than the bears. And that’s saying something.

DDC: DDC was only my second RPG ever, and I’d only been playing for six months when I joined. That was all Dawny’s fault. She kept giggling and sending me links to Doreen and Anne writing the most horrific romance EVER, and I couldn’t help it, I got sucked in. Before I knew it, I had two, then three characters. Then more. And now, I’m a mod. How weird is that?

Bonus round: If you’ve RP’d with me, give me the name of one of my characters, and five words that character brings to mind, and I’ll explain what they mean to that character in a reply here.

I'm taking off in just a few minutes. I'm heading down to spend a little time in VA before dragging myself further south to Atlanta for Dragon*Con. I'll be checking in via my Twitter account, and I will probably be posting some pics in my LiveJournal to share with all y'all.

See you later, don't burn the place down while I'm gone!

X-posted to LJ

Okay. Two replies left to do for DDC tomorrow, though Njord will hold off for a bit to let Hedylogos or Anansi reply if they want to. And then WC replies. Yay! That's the plan for tomorrow. Plan for tonight? Sleep off the headache.

Husbands are such high maintenance

So I had plans for my day. Plans that got sidetracked when my husband dragged me out for pretty much the entire day. I'm going to attempt to get a reply or two written here tonight, but he's still sitting here so I may be distracted some more. If I don't get them done tonight, I will get them done in the morning... I'll get up early before he gets up and wants to go do stuff again. :-D

I have a couple replies to do, and I want to throw Namtar and Hera into the auction thread, but my head is absolutely killing me tonight. I keep sitting here staring at the open word doc and nothing is coming out. So I'm just going to pop a couple more painkillers, call it quits for tonight, and try again in the morning. I'm sorry to those that are waiting.

Your result for Roleplayer Test!...

The Biographer

Plotful, Character-Oriented, Platonic

Like the Portraitist, the development of your character is the most important thing to you when you roleplay. However, you like your development and relationships to have some kind of overarching plot: you're not the type to enjoy a dressing room or any kind of roleplay where your character can't grow in at least a semi-structured manner. You enjoy exploring your character's psyche, but simple exploration isn't enough: you like to discover and then implement and use, and therefore continuity (which gives you "why"s and "how"s) is very important to you. You struggle when your character has no solid base in which to put down its roots, such as in games where there isn't enough structure or ones where the plot is continually changing.

Take Roleplayer Test! at HelloQuizzy

Okay. So. The guys took longer on my house this morning than anticipated, I went to bed far later than I planned, and I'm simply dead. Added to this is the fact that the hubby is dead too so he's staying home, which means he'll pester me when he's done napping. He likes to spend time with me or something for some stupid reason. ;)

So later, to do:

<strike>Hera reply to little Oizys
Baby Bast reply to Ahti
Sigyn reply to Loki
Harley reply to Ace
New Nyx post with Lethe
New Hera post with Artemis and possibly Dionysos

Njord reply to Ullr
Njord reply to Skadhi</strike>
(both of which will happen tomorrow because I'm not in a Njord mood tonight.)

Not so bad, all things considered. I just really wanted to attack a couple of those early in the day, and now I can't. Just... blarg.

Going back to bed now.

The joys of irresponsibility

I'm blowing off replies tonight. Why? Because I just feel like it, that's why. HA! Yay holiday weekend!

To Do in the coming days, maybe not tomorrow, maybe the next day, maybe whenever the hell I feel like it:

<strike>New Njord post with... anybody?</strike> <strike>With Skadhi</strike> started!
New Jeannie post <strike>with... anybody?</strike> With Betty - Dawny is starting it
<strike>New Harley post with Ace</strike>

<strike>Book reply to Simon
Philotes reply to Harmonia
Sigyn reply to Loki
Bast reply to Morpheus (finishing up that thread, or are we keeping it going?)</strike>

<strike>Figure out a way for Hera and Dionysos to snark at each other.</strike> Figured, I think, just have to implement it.

<strike>Modly stuffs.</strike> Partially done anyway.

What did I miss?

I don't care. HEE!

I know that I owe Mila and Bill replies, but my brain is too tired to do Hera right now. She's not a character I can write off the cuff, she requires thought. Once my brain is no longer mush, I will have her reply to both Hades and Oizys. Thank you for your patience.

Six Questions Meme
Give me one (or more) of my characters, past or present, and I will tell you:

1. What initially prompted me to like the character enough to write about him/her.
2. One of his/her best traits.
3. One of his/her worst traits.
4. How easy/difficult I find it to write the character.
5. The story/thread/chapter/post/paragraph/tag/phrase where I feel that I truly captured the character.
6. My plans (if any) to write the character in the near future.

Delays

Okay, so real life kicked my ass today. I know I owe like six replies and a new thread, and I’m sorry but I just don’t have it in me tonight. I wussed out and took a pain pill. I will do my best to catch up tomorrow.

This is just another reminder of why I DO NOT need any more characters. Don’t. Don’t. Don’t. I can’t keep up with the ones I have when I have an off day. I do not need a narcoleptic Sleeping Beauty at into_the_woods. I do not need to put Ruby Rhod on hold at we_coexist. And I’m really thankful that I’m full up at deities_dot_com and it took me FOREVER to decide to trade Apate for Hera, so I don’t think I’ll be picking up anybody new there any time soon.

Oy.

I am home.

And after a long drive, I am pooped. I haven't even taken the luggage out of the car. Nothing in there I'll need until tomorrow anyway. So... no replies tonight, but I'll get working on them tomorrow. It was a great visit, but it's good to be home.
